Job at Hollister

Hey guys. So as you all know I had a never ending search for a job. After applying to so many chem jobs and never hearing back from any of them (excluding my awkward interview with MCC which I'll talk about in a later blog) I decided to try my luck at retail. So the other day I was shopping in Hollister which I always do on weekends when I shop with my mom, and when we were at the cashier a guy asked me if I would want to work at Hollister. In my mind I was screaming of course, but my mom was there so I wanted to get the OK since I know she still wants me to have a job related to my major. After she said sure if you want I said yes and the guy gave me a recruitment paper. I scheduled an interview about a week after and I got a callback this Monday saying I got the job as a Hollister Model. Yay! Im not an actual model but more of a store model. So I greet people, maintain the rooms, make sure things are neat and folded, prevent theft, help customers find sizes or items, and cash wrap.

My orientation was today. It was okay. It lasted an hour and a half but honestly I think the orientation could have been shorter because my manager seemed super busy today and was running around like 80% of the time while trying to get everything completed for me at the orientation. First I showed her my soc sec id then driver license. I then entered it in the computer and filled out a form. Then I went into the stockroom where I had to watch one of the most boring videos. It was all about loss prevention. She then asked me what were the three types of loss prevention in the video. After that I had to fill out a few more forms through the computer while she shuffled around helping other associates. Surprisingly this took a while because I had no idea what papers I had to fill out and every time I had a question she was out on the floor somewhere talking to an associate. But shes the manager Im sure she is busy every day.

After I filled out all the paperwork she told me to take the AAA guide which is the list of clothes I can wear to work and to pick out a few to wear to work. I was able to pick out 5 items for 50% off but I'm broke at the moment and new floorsets are coming out in 3 weeks-ish so I only bought two items which was a pink tank (it was the only colored item on the AAA list other than pink and green plaid shirts and a green dress). I also got a grey sweater with a bear picture with the words hug under it. Bear hug! Get it? lol. Idk why I think its cute... I will post the pictures of them online.

After getting my AAA's I was shown how to access the scheduling system. My manager was off somewhere else at this time so another girl, not sure if she was assistant manager or just another model but she told me that I was not scheduled next week and said I should print out my schedule anyways. After this, the manager had to walk me out which is they policy Hollister makes you abide by every time you go into the store you work at to make sure their employees dont steal since they have access to a lot of stuff. While she was walking me out she asked if I was told about the scheduling system and I told her yeah and that the girl told me I wasnt working next week so I should just check next friday instead. The manager told me I should check this Friday just in case because sometimes the system can schedule new hires but most of the time it doesn't. I dont know if she meant Im new to the system so it takes a while to put new hires in there or if it means they don't schedule new hires much. But I checked online and they said that the store probably has already started setting up the schedule for next week which is probably why I wont get a shift. But I guess we will have to wait until friday to check.

KBShimmers Fall Collection : Vicious Circles

Hey everyone. Sorry I haven't posted much lately, I been busy job searching. But I finally have time to write a blog now. However, no luck on the job search yet...

But anyways, Vicious Circles is a vibrant red jelly with micro silver glitters, large silver circular glitters and micro bars (honestly you can barely even see them). This glitter combo is so beautiful. As you guys know by now, I love glitter bomb polishes. I loved how I only needed to use two coats to make it opaque ( I think three coats would have had too much glitter). Thought this polish is beautiful, I did have to smooth out the glitters with Gelous. But after one coat of Gelous, the polish was smooth. I added a top coat of HK girl on top of Gelous. The finish ended up being a little squishy, Im not sure if it was due to Gelous or it was because of HK girl top coat but because it has a squishy finish I got chips on my nails 2 days after I painted it and today (the third day I had it on) it is starting to chip more from the sides. Maybe next time I will try to only use Seche Vite over it (which probably will smooth out the glitters as well) and see how that goes.

Despite the chipping which is probably due to the top coats, the polish itself is beautiful and looks more amazing in person.

KBShimmer's Fall Collection: You Autumn Know

Hey everyone =]. I can't believe its September already! Time flies. Lately I been pumped up about fall. I guess its something about colorful leaves and pumpkin-y things. Haha. Besides pretty winter decorations I think fall decorations are amazing as well.

Last month I spent a lot of money on polishes so I decided to go on a September no buy. That means no buying polishes for all of September. There was one exception tho and that exception was the KBShimmer fall collection because it came out September 1st. So as a penalty I extended the September no buy till October 2nd.

I bought four polishes from KBShimmers new fall collection. One of them I bought was "You Autumn Know". Its a cute name for a polish. It is a white creamy polish with fushia, orange and gold glitters. This was my first white base polish I have ever tried and I'm glad this was my first because it is amazing. I remember when KBShimmer first announced its colors, I was a little iffy about it because I had never tried white based polishes. Even after looking at swatches I was still undecided. I thought long and hard about it and I really loved the combination of glitters because it reminded me of leaves with a hint of fushia to it. The polish has lots of glitters so if you dont want too much glitter you can use a white base under like I did.

I used one coat of Opi's "My Boyfriend Scales Walls" as a base coat and two coats of "You Autumn Know". The application was great, though the first coat may not cover bald spots if your white base does not fully cover your nails. I think I like the polish so much that I want to savor it by using 2 coats of white base next time and just 1 coat of You Autumn Know =].

I took a picture of my nails with a free mini body lotion I got from Bath and Body Works. I love their freebie coupons and as you can tell I love fall stuff =].

Etude House Dear Darling Tint #2 Real Red

Recently I went on a mini Etude Haul on the KollectionK website. It took a while for my package to come in but what can you expect when your package is coming from Korea. Sadly I was at school when they decided to deliver it but I was able to pick it up at the post office after class.

I been looking for lip tints because I don't really like lipstick that end up coming off when you drink stuff. Ever since I passed by Korea during my layover to China, I was amazed by Korean makeup. I decided to try Etude to see how it would work since I would assume that most Asian makeup brands would not put any harsh chemicals (though this has not been proven, its just an opinion to me).

Along with this product I bought an Etude polish (which I have no tried yet) and an all over color which I have in a review on my blog.

Now lets get to the product. This color was in #2 Real Red. The color really is RED. I been looking for a red lip-color that wouldn't be too bright and not too dark for me. The thing I love about this lip tint is that you can build up on color. If you want it to be more subtle just apply less of the lip-gel and it will not come off too strong. There is also a fruity kind of smell to the gloss, honestly, it doesn't bug me at all. The gel does take maybe 4-5 minutes to dry but once it does it stays on for a while. I wore it the other day when I went to Hollywood with my family and I think it lasted a good maybe 4 hours without having to reapply. Also, if you like more of a smooth lip feeling you can always add balm on top of the lip-tint ( make sure the gel/tint has dried completely before applying balm or lasting power might not be as strong).

Overall this is a great lip tint. It does seem to wear off after a while but its decent for the price it is offered at. Heres a picture of me with two very very thin coats of the lip tint ( I basically just made a line with the tip of the wand and just used my fingers to blend it out to the corners of my lip).

Pahlish's Drink the Sea

Hey everyone. Guess what? I am finally done with my undergraduate career. Yay! That means more blogs! Pahlish has become an indie brand I became very fond of recently. I would say almost half of my indie polishes are from Pahlish. Their formulas never seem to disappoint me and their shades are quite beautiful.

Today I will be reviewing the shade Drink the Sea. This shade came out less than a month ago and I bought it the day it came out. I was trying a lot of turquoise and green polishes at that time and when I saw that Pahlish was going to release this polish I thought it would be awesome to add to my turquoise collection.

Drink the Sea is a turquoise creamy polish with greenish-gold glitter and neon green glitter. The formula is a little bit thick so the first coat comes off kind of uneven with very little streaking. The second coat can be use to fixed the polish if you have careful hands and are patient (sometimes when Im impatient I cant get an even layer). Only two coats is required. The polish did dry a little lumpy because of the large amount of glitter but I like the fact that I did not have to fish for the glitter.
I topped the polish off (only used 2 coats of Drink the Sea) with one coat of Gelous (to even out the bumps from the glitter) and one coat of Seche Vite

The polish is a tad bit lighter than the picture I captured and has more of a blue tint to it in person. I think when I take pictures of polishes that have lots of glitter in it my camera goes crazy and doesn't take accurate pictures. But as you can see the glitters look lovely inside this creamy polish.

Essie Naughty Nautical Collection: Girls Night Out

Hello everyone! Last week of summer school and I will officially be a graduate of UCR Chemistry. Yay! But now for another polish review before I go study =P.

Lately I been buying a lot of purple polishes. They are quite pretty but so far its just been light purple or pastel purple but I wanted something a bit darker since summer gave me a bit of a tan. When I saw this beauty at Walgreens I knew this was a color I'd like. I resisted the urge to splurge (haha that rhymes), and decided to look up the reviews of the polish before buying it. I always like to read reviews that way I avoid getting polishes with poor formulation and end up either tossing it to the side or returning it. After reading reviews, I got the go for buying the polish.

When I went back to Walgreens there was a deal for the polish where you save $2. Yes that means it was $6 instead of $8. I was so happy. I ended up buying this with Essie's E-nuff is E-nuff but I shall review that one separately. Now time to the details of Girls Night Out

Girls Night out is a pretty fushia color polish. Its not quite hot pink but not quite purple. Its a good balance between the two. In indirect light it looks a little more purple but in the sun or in direct sunlight it looks hot pink. The formulation was amazing. I only applied 2 medium coats. Most of my polishes tend to be a lil thin and require 3 coats so I was almost used to applying 3 coats automatically until I looked at my nails and realized it was already opaque in 2 coats. There was no problems applying it and no annoying lumps. As for the shimmer, there is not a lot of shimmer on the nail when its applied but in the bottle it does look like there is. Definitely has more shimmer than Rock the Boat but not much. Overall I really loved the color and application of this polish. Below are pictures I took of the polish

Etude House: in Sweet Recipe Cupcake All Over Color #OR202

Hey guys! I was excited to pick up my Etude package yesterday after waiting about two weeks for it to come in from Korea. My first reactions when I saw the product was "wow, this is smaller than I expected". The product is only 10g or 0.35oz. From pictures most people zoomed in to the product which made it look bigger than the actual product was (Sorry I did that too but it is to show how beautify the casing is).

I have tried Tartes cheek stains before. While the lasting power of Tarte cheek stains were amazing, they always left a sticky residue on my face so sometimes random link or even my own hair would stick to my face. After a while I just got tired of it because since my face is oily, I would slightly break out sometimes. Today I decided to try this little beauty. Here is a pic of it:

This all over color has a very creamy and sheer consistency. I originally got this in #OR202 because I wanted something subtle because Im not the type who wears heavy or noticeable blush ( I usually dont wear blush at all to be honest). This was very sheer as a blush. I had to sweep about 3 layers of it on my face until I saw a hint of peach. However, these were small sweeps of blush on my face so it was definitely not like I was painting my face with this cute little all over color. In the end, it give a really natural look. I was debating whether to take pictures of it but my camera was being lame and the lighting in my house wasn't good so I wasn't able to get a clear picture of the blush.

Overall the product was nice. It gives a nice peachy color to your cheeks and it even smells like peach. However, the smell does fade away so if you are worried about your cheeks smelling like peach all day you are fine =]. Not sure how long the lasting power is for this, but I will update this in a few days to tell you all how the lasting power is.

Delush: Some Bunny Loves You Review

Hey everyone! Yay my first polish review. Trust me, you will see a lot more of these! A week or two before graduation I purchased this Delush polish and it came in a day before my graduation. Sadly I forgot I had this in my nail polish drawer but today I decided to try this polish. When I first took out Some Bunny Loves You, I noticed that all the glitters were stuck at the bottom of the bottle. I was very sad because of this but after about 1 min of vigorous shaking (probably annoyed my brother with the noise it makes with the steel mixing balls), the glitters successfully mixed throughout the polish.

The first coat of Some Bunny Loves You was kind of sheer for my liking. I'm not going to lie, but because it was more sheer than I expected, I was thinking to remove the polish because I do not like to use more than 3 coats of a polish and I thought that this might be a polish I had to use around 4 coats. However, I decided to wait it out and see how opaque it would be if I applied a second coat. To my surprise, the polish was pretty opaque in two coats. After two coats there was still some visible nail line so I decided to apply a third coat. After the third coat the polish looked really nice.

Even though I am used to glitter bomb polishes this is a polish that is nice if you want a subtle look and a hint of glitter.

Here are two pics:

This one is a picture with medium light (this was the light inside my restroom because my light inside my room tends to wash out the color of my polishes, especially light or pastel polishes like this one)

And here is a picture with less light (to show how pigmented it is) and from here you can see the amount of glitter after three coats. The glitters are all pastel (white, pink, purple and baby blue diamond) so it can get hidden under another coat of polish.

Overall here are the rankings:

Pigmentation: 8.5/10
Texture: 8/10
Application: 4/5

Overall grade: B+
